about

I've been gathering sources for a piece using samples from outdoor bouldering. One thing I've noticed is that bouldering, unlike rope climbing, has fairly subtle sounds. At least the action of bouldering has subtle sounds.
In the meadows around the problems at Robin Hood's Stride, I kept hearing a series of clicks in the distance. Probably crickets. Every time I tried to get closer though, they faded out so I never got a clear hearing.
I left my LS-100 hand held recorder in the grasses a hundred metres or so away from where we were climbing, nestled deep in the grass without a windscreen. The mics are already a bit on the edge of acceptable, so why add more interference?
The crickets came back, along with a few other friends. You can hear us talking about rocks in the distance.

Chances are they're recorded with XY coincident Nuemann KM184s.
Some are recorded to an iPad via an RME Babyface, and some to an Olympus LS-100.
